Mr. Shigeru Ban, Architect
Born in Tokyo, Japan in 1957. Studied architecture at the Cooper Union School of Architecture (NY) and has offices in Tokyo, Paris, and New York. He is known for his architecture using paper tubes and innovative structures using wood. His representative works include Centre Georges Pompidou Messe (2010), Paper Cathedral (2013), Oita Prefectural Art Museum (2014), La Seine Musical (2017), Mt. Fuji World Heritage Center (2017), SIMOSE (2023).
In 1995, he founded the NGO "Voluntary Architects' Network (VAN) in 1995 and has received the Pritzker Architecture Prize (2014), the Mother Teresa Social Justice Award (2017), and the Prince of Asturias Award for Peace (2022) for his numerous contributions to disaster relief around the world. He is currently a specially invited professor at Shibaura Institute of Technology.
